Human Rights

This week we have been learning about human rights. Our task was to write all the human rights onto a poster. (we were given a site to work off of).

Reflection: Next time I will try to re write and change more of the words in the sentence than this time and I will also try to stay on task in class so I can get my work done quicker. Next time I will also try and improve on the quality of my work. Unfortunately I was not able to make the slide very interesting because if I did the site i used would make me pay to download my poster. So next time I should consider using a different slide or just google drawings to make my poster.

Reflection:
It was challenging when choosing the topic because I had no idea where to start and what topic to choose. I coped with the challenge by working with a friend so it would be a little easier and less stressful. I work well with others because when im stuck I can ask them for help and you can split the work with the person you are doing it with. Next time I will try and get my work done faster and to put a little more writting. I am really proud of how I chose a topic that would be just right for me because i thought i would choose one either to easy or to hard.

Abomination Novel Study questions

What are the traditional roles of men, women and children that are shown in this community? Roles of men in gloriavale sometimes is construction

At what age are members of Gloriavale expected to begin work?
Members of gloriavale start working at the age of 1-2 or when they start working
What role does Religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members?                                                             No because you dont have much freedom. E.g you only go to school until your year 10, you have to do jobs as soon as you start walking and you have no control of your own life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Do you think the people living in Gloriavale are happy? Why or why not                                                     Yes and No because living like that can be a preference and there is always going to be people who like it and people who don't.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Do you think the people in Gloriavale experience Human Rights?                                                                   People in gloriavale don't have as many rights as people in NZ. But in gloriavale as you get older you are given more rights. And when you are elderly you are given rights to access the internet and electronics.                                                                                                                                                                       Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale. Why or why not?                                               Personally I would not like to live in gloriavale because you aren't allowed to see whats happening in the world for yourself, and elderly has to tell you. You have to start doing jobs as soon as you can walk basically, and you don't have as many rights in gloriavale as you do here in New Zealand.

Springbok Tour

1. What is another word for apartheid?

More words for apartheid is discrimination, racism and/or separation.

2.Why did the protesters need helmets?

The protesters need helmets because the police had "special long battens"

3.Why do you think being called honorary whites upset the Maori All Blacks.

The Maori All Blacks were upset when being called Honorary Whites because the South Africans used that term to grant almost all of the rights and privileges of whites to those who would otherwise have been treated as non-whites.

4.Why was the Hamilton rugby game cancelled?

The Hamilton rugby game was cancelled because of anti-tour protesters occupied the game field chanting "The whole world is watching".

5.Do you think this protest was successful? Why?

I think the protest worked because their protest stopped the Hamilton game.

6.How do you think NZ protests helped Nelson Mandela?

The impact the NZ anti-tour protest made on south Africa helped free Nelson Mandela from jail and become the new president.

Ten Facts on the Springbok Tour

-At some of the games there were around 7000 people

-In the springbok protests not one single person died

-Over 150,000 people protested

-About 1500 people were arrested during the protest

-At the time of the protests South Africa was considered New Zealand's biggest rival in the rugby union.

-Since 1995, countries like Australia, England, and France have challenged New Zealand and south Africa claims to be the two powerhouses of rugby.

-In 1928 the All Blacks toured South Africa, and over the course of three months, they played 22 matches, won 16, The test series was ties 2-2, and a great rivalry was born.

-In South Africa before 1948 the white minority enjoyed a privilege position, reinforced by a number of laws and practices that ensured there was extensive segregation of the races.

-From 1960s New Zealand-South Africa rugby contact was central to South Africa's attempts to maintain international sporting contact.

Effect of Heat.

This blog post is to show all the knowledge our class has learned over the past few weeks in chemistry.

Contraction (Imploding Can)                                                                                          A couple of weeks ago we experimented to teach us about contraction, contraction is when something and something contracts (becomes smaller). When we did the experiment we lit the Bunsen burner, once we lit the Bunsen burner, the heat of the flame made the water slowly turn into steam. Once the water finally started to turn to steam we picked up the tongs and flipped the can into an ice cream container full of cold water. Unfortunately, our experiment didn't work and it failed. What's supposed to happen is when you flip the can into the ice cream container the can is supposed to contract and become smaller from the warm and cold particles moving around quickly.

Expansion (Ball and hoop)                                                                                               Expansion is when something becomes more extensive. We did an experiment to learn about expansion we started up a Bunsen burner and put the ball over the flame. As the flame heated the ball it caused it to expand making it not fit through the hoop as it did before.

Conduction (Dropping Pins)

Conduction is the process when heat energy is transmitted through a solid, making the particles vibrate more and more. The experiment we did the learn about conduction is where you set up a Bunsen burner and put a metal rod on a clip (with 5 pins covered in Vaseline stuck to the rod). After that, you put the Bunsen burner under the end of the rod then wait. Eventually, the pins should fall off one by one because the particles in the rod starting to vibrate (caused by the flame of the Bunsen burner.

Convection in liquid (pomegranate crystals in water)

Convection occurs when particles with a lot of heat energy in a liquid or gas move and take the place of particles with less heat energy. When experimenting to learn about convection in liquid we lit a Bunsen burner and placed a glass beaker on top of the stand. When we were ready we dropped a pomegranate crystal into the water through a straw. The heat from the flame made the color of the dissolving crystal circulate until fully dissolved into the water.

Convection in gas (Teabag rockets)

Convection in gas is the transfer of heat by the movement of gas between areas of different temperatures. To teach our class what convection in gas was we experimented with teabags and fire. Firstly we tipped the tea out of the teabag then we stoop the tea bag up straight. Once that was done we were given a box of matches to light the top of our teabag. As the fire spread to the bottom the teabag floated up to the ceiling, spreading ashes all through the room.
